Re-encuentro Memorías de TUMI-FUSIÓN

MEMORIAS se realizará el sábado 13 de febrero de 2010 a partir de las 19.30 horas en la Casa cultural Inka Tupac Yupanqui (Calle Arequipa Nº 159) de la ciudad del Cusco – Perú. Esperamos contar con su asistencia.

MEMORIAS será un re-encuentro musical de la agrupación cusqueña TUMI – FUSIÓN, la cual entregó su musica en espacios locales, nacionales e internacionales entre los años 1987 y 2001. Hoy después de 10 años, quienes hemos integrado diferentes etapas de la agrupación durante sus 14 años de trayectoria, sentimos en un latir común el deseo de revitalizar nuestras canciones y entregar estas memorias a ustedes, la vital contraparte de esta experiencia.

Nilton Ibarra, Juan Carlos Espinoza, Róger Quispe, Manuel Cule, Jaime Arias, Saúl Vega y Omar Ponce, invitamos a compartir con nosotros este re-encuentro con la música, la poesía, nuestras vivencias, nuestros proyectos y utopías. Su asistencia reafirmará la convicción de Tumi – Fusión cual es seguir cantándole a la Tierra por justicia y equidad en nuestros pueblos.

En 1987, nace la agrupación musical denominada TUMI, (nombre del objeto ceremonial de la cultura Moche que lleva imagen del dios Naylamp o hacedor del universo en la cosmogonía andina). Durante su trayectoria TUMI orientó su repertorio a la difusión de la música peruana andina y posteriormente al conocimiento y exploración de las diferentes músicas de América latina.

En la ciudad del Cusco, TUMI participa en eventos culturales organizados por el INC, MICTI, Municipalidad del Cusco, UNSAAC entre otras entidades, así como en actividades de carácter social y conciertos de tipo didáctico. En los 90´s ofreció los conciertos: La noche de América (1996), Impresiones (1997), Concherto grosso (1998), Con-trastes (1999), Mitos y Cantares (2000), y Gratitud (2001). Participó también en festivales nacionales realizados en las ciudades de Arequipa y Lima y en eventos internacionales como el Festival Internacional de Folkore UNSAAC (Cusco 1991), el Festival de Folklore Andino realizado en La Paz – Bolivia (1992), el Encuentro de Impresiones realizado en Combarbalá – Chile (1996) y el Encuentro Latinoamericano de Artes realizado en Quilitapia y Santiago de Chile (1998) encuentro para el cual grabó una composición como tema característico.

A finales de los 90’s, con el desarrollo en la formación musical de sus integrantes, mas las experiencias vividas por ellos al transitar por universos musicales diversos, el grupo experimenta cambios en cuanto a su conformación instrumental como en cuanto a su repertorio, tomando desde entonces la denominación de TUMI–FUSIÓN. En esta etapa el grupo incluye nuevas fuentes sonoras, estilísticas y conceptuales, logrando como fruto de este trabajo la grabación de su disco titulado Alas Nuevas (1998), el que incluye obras populares, obras experimentales y temas de composición. En este disco se perfila la personalidad musical propia del grupo, resultado de, por entonces más de 10 años de experiencia musical.

Sus integrantes han recorrido parte del mundo como músicos, cultores, expositores e instrumentistas. Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Japón, Korea del sur, Suiza, Francia, Estados unidos entre otros, han sido los lugares donde ellos impregnaron el sonido y conocimiento de la música andina en diversas ocasiones. En la actualidad, cada uno de ellos realiza su actividad profesional en diferentes ámbitos del quehacer musical, sea desempeñándose como didácta, instrumentista, arreglista o como investigador de la música tradicional en importantes espacios locales y del exterior.

El Re–encuentro de TUMI–FUSIÓN al cabo de 9 años de tregua, denominado como MEMORIAS, reafirma la vocación del grupo de cantarle a la sociedad con una propuesta de diversidad, equidad y solidaridad. En esta perspectiva, el grupo proyecta la grabación de un disco celebratorio de sus 25 años (1987 - 2012) en el cual participarán todos los músicos que han sido integrantes en diferentes etapas de la agrupación.

Los instrumentos musicales empleados por TUMI–FUSIÓN son los que pertenecen a la tradición musical de diferentes comunidades de América latina. Los integrantes de este re-encuentro son los músicos:
• Roger Quispe Monge: Guitarra, tiple, guitarrón mexicano, sikus.
• Manuel Cule Jurado: Bajo acústico, guitarrón puneño, mandolina, quena, flautín, sikus.
• Nilton Ibarra Vilchez: Voz líder, bombo legüero, bombo andino, guitarra acústica, maracas.
• Juan Carlos Espinoza Zegarra: Sikus, quena, guitarra, vihuela mexicana, cuatro llanero, bongó, maracas.
• Saúl Vega Colquehuanca: Charango, charango cusqueño, maracas, güiro, voz líder.
• Jaime Arias Motta: Flauta traversa, flautín, quena, sikus, claves.
• Omar Ponce Valdivia: [Dirección musical] Teclados sintetizadores, guitarra, cuatro, mandolina, charango chillador, sikus.

Música Alrededor La Navidad

We had 3 musical events within the week of Christmas.

A bronze ensemble that practices in the cultural center once a week, gave an impromptu performance on December 23 right before the "Concierto de Gala por la Navidad" in the Cathedral. The members of the bronze ensemble also played in the Christmas Concert of the Cathedral as they are all members of the Cusco Symphonic Orchestra. Many thanks to the bronze ensemble and their coordinator Luis Martinez.

On December 29 we had a concert by a group of students also studying by the Suzuki method but in a workshop independent of the Qantu Association that had earlier in November-December had graduation concerts in the house. For me, the highlight of the event was the short presentation given by the "Ritornello" string quartet after the student concert.

On December 30, the Ritornello" string quartet gave a full length concert. It was magnificent... and the sound of the quartet in the main room of this 16th century was just do beautiful. Thanks to Sandra Tello the representative for the quartet and to the members of the quartet.

Concierto Barroco y La Mujer Crucificada

Lucho Ramirez, a performer as well as director in theater, presented his one man production of Concierto Barroco December 4-5 and narrated La Mujer Crucificada (The Crucified Woman) and other perverse stories December 18-19. It was very impressive watching both his performance of Concierto Barroco and listening to his narrations.

Here is the propaganda for the performance, the picture carries more a sense of the bizarre than I can put into words.

And here is Lucho during his performance of 'Concierto Barroco'. The only props were a bottle of wine on the table, a glass (of course) and a CD player which provided part of the background 'concierto' during part of the performance.

Qantu Asociación - Suzuki Music Concerts

The Qantu music association affiliated with Suzuki Music of Peru had concerts and graduation ceremonies in several different events. Our daughter graduated from book 1 of violin during the November 13 graduation from books 1 to 3 for violin. There were separate events during November and into December for violin books 4-7, flutes, guitar and piano. The concerts were delightful and by books 4-7, the music is very refined and sophisticated reaching professional quality. The Qantu program in Cusco draws students from all walks of life and is not at all a program for the elite!

The teachers have an international composition: Flor Canelo (back left) is the director and comes from Perú. Allyson (front left) comes from Canada, Fernando (back 3rd from right) comes from Perú, Amy and Angela (back right) come from the US.

For that matter, while the majority of students in Qantu come from Perú, there is a sprinkling of students from the US and France as well.

Haylli PachaMama

Saturday evenings 7, 14, 21 and 28 of November the center hosted 'Celebrations of the Mother Earth', Haylli PachaMama. The celebrations included music, dance, paintings and ritual with artists Kike Pinto (composer, performer and event coordinator), Sikuris Willkamayu (dancers and musicians) and Yanaruma Ayllu (Shaman). Together with the HAYLLI there as during the month of November and exposition of art related with the HAYLLI PachaMama theme with painters Constanza, CH'aska, Clara and Xhiva.

Origami Convención

At the end of October, the origami association in Peru hosted an international origami conference based partly in the cultural center.

For entertainment the Perú chapter organized a traditional dance demonstration for all the participants.

There were participants from throughout South America.

One of the works included a dragon and a knight challenging the dragon.

Opening of the Cultural Center

The goal of the cultural center is to attend to the totality of "What is happening today in Cusquenian, Peruvian and South American art and culture?" (in that order). We encourage and provide space for music, theater, dance, stories, readings, and other performances. In collaboration with the art gallery, we also offer space for exhibitions of contemporary art in all of the medias that the creative mind might conceive.
